Origin Media Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-09-30
#1. Who we are and what these Terms cover
Origin Media is a product of CoreOrbit Systems Ltd. ("Origin Media," "we," or "us"). These Terms cover your use of the Origin Media website at originmedia.io, its editorial Stories and Tales, business Map and profiles, nomination form, and any Passport feature we make available. You can browse public content without a Passport account.
CoreOrbit Systems Ltd. is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and serves people globally. Origin Media focuses on local stories, and people elsewhere may access the site. These Terms apply only to the extent permitted by the laws that apply to you. A separate agreement may govern any production or other commercial service you buy from CoreOrbit Systems Ltd.; buying one does not buy or guarantee Origin Media editorial coverage.
#2. Editorial work and nominations
Origin Media chooses whom and what to cover using its editorial judgment. A Story, Tale, Map listing, or other editorial feature is free and cannot be purchased. A nomination does not guarantee contact, filming, publication, a particular description, or credit.
You may nominate a business by giving its name, street, and why you think its story should be told. Your own name and email are optional. Please submit information you reasonably believe is accurate and are entitled to share. Do not include sensitive personal information, private contact details, or information about a child in the nomination text. We may review and store your submission and use it to decide whether to follow up; providing an email lets us contact you about it. If you provide a name for possible credit, we will handle any public use of that name under applicable privacy law. A nomination does not give us permission to use anyone's name, image, or likeness in advertising or promotion without any consent required by law.
We may decline, remove, or correct a nomination or editorial item where we reasonably consider it inaccurate, unlawful, unsafe, or unsuitable for the site. You may contact us about a factual correction or a concern about how someone is portrayed.
#3. Business profiles, visits, and outside services
The Map and business profiles help you discover local businesses. Addresses, hours, phone numbers, availability, and other details can change; please confirm important details with the business before visiting. A profile or Story is not a guarantee of a merchant's products, services, safety, accessibility, or current opening hours. Merchants remain responsible for their own offerings and dealings with you.
The site may link to maps, merchant sites, social platforms, and other services we do not operate. Those services may have their own terms and privacy practices.
#4. Passport, if available
Passport is an optional, free collection feature. It is currently unavailable unless we enable it. For the first British Columbia pilot, you must confirm that you are at least 19, sign in with a link sent to an email address you control, review the Privacy Notice, and accept the published Terms before activating it. Keep your email account and sign-in links secure, and do not use another person's account or claim a visit you did not make.
A holder can collect one stamp for each participating merchant. An approved merchant staff member may issue a short-lived, one-use stamp QR code. A separate printed counter QR code lets you record a self check-in without asking staff to use a device; that claim is labelled as a self check-in, not staff confirmation. Scanning a permanent Story or discovery QR code does not earn a stamp. Codes may expire, be revoked, or be rejected if already used or if the stamp has already been collected.
Your Passport profile can include an optional private display name, neighbourhood and photo, and a preferred language. Leaving the optional fields blank does not prevent stamp collection. You can edit those fields and replace or remove your photo; your verified sign-in email is shown read-only. The profile is not a public visitor page. Only upload a photo you have the right to use, and avoid including another person's private information. Choosing a profile name or photo does not verify your identity or age. Editing a profile or signing out does not unsubscribe you from the newsletter or delete your account. Contact us if you want to close your Passport account; the Privacy Notice explains requests and retention limits.
We resize and compress uploaded profile photos and remove embedded metadata before storing the processed image. Removing a photo stops it appearing in your profile; deletion from service-provider systems and retained copies is subject to the process and limits described in the Privacy Notice. We do not promise that every copy is erased immediately or that an optional profile photo can always be recovered after a service failure.
Stamps document participation in this collection. They have no cash value and do not, by themselves, entitle you to a prize, discount, printed book, Wallet pass, or other reward. We will explain any future offer separately before it applies. We may investigate and correct a stamp affected by error, misuse, or fraud. Contact us if you believe your collection is wrong.
#5. Newsletter and email
The newsletter is optional and separate from Passport. We ask you to confirm your email subscription and provide an unsubscribe method in newsletter messages. We send commercial electronic messages only where we have a lawful basis to do so under applicable law. Unsubscribing from the newsletter does not prevent a sign-in link or other message you specifically request from being sent when permitted by law.
#6. Content and acceptable use
Origin Media and its licensors retain their rights in the site's text, photographs, videos, design, and marks. You may view the site and share links to its public pages. You must obtain permission before republishing substantial original material, except where applicable law allows it, including fair dealing and other statutory rights. A merchant or other third party may own content that appears on or is linked from the site.
Do not interfere with the site or its security, impersonate someone, use automated access in a way that disrupts the service, submit unlawful or rights-infringing material, or misuse nomination, sign-in, or Passport codes. Nothing in these Terms restricts an honest review, a lawful complaint, or any right to seek a remedy under applicable law.
#7. Availability and your legal rights
We may change, pause, or discontinue site features. We work to keep information useful and the site available, but cannot promise that a feature will always be available or that third-party business information will always be current. We remain responsible for our obligations under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits a right, remedy, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle personal information. If these Terms change, we will post the updated text and its effective date. A change will apply only as permitted by law; where a new consent is required, we will seek it before relying on that change.
#8. Law, disputes, and contact
The laws of British Columbia and applicable federal laws of Canada govern these Terms to the extent permitted by law. Mandatory consumer or other protections that apply where you live remain available to you. A court with jurisdiction under applicable law may hear a dispute. These Terms do not require arbitration, waive participation in a class proceeding, or prevent you from publishing a lawful review.
Questions, correction requests, and concerns can be sent to [email protected].
